This role is classified as Level 3â¯role under SBS Australia's current Enterprise Agreementâ¯(with a base salary range of $89,140 - $96,482). The successful applicant will be offered remuneration that is commensurate with their skills and experienceâ¯and in alignment with this framework.
The role is for a specified period, ending in early October 2026.
The role is structured around a rotating shift roster that includes mornings, evenings, and weekends.
As a rostered shiftworker, additional shift penalty payments apply for work performed outside of ordinary hours, including weekends and public holidays, as per the SBS Enterprise Agreement (EA). SBS may also require you to work reasonable overtime, where overtime will be paid at applicable rates in accordance with the EA. Shift patterns may change over time depending on operational needs.

The Roleâ¯
We have an exciting opportunity for a passionate and driven Digital Editor to join SBS News in our digital newsroom.
We’re looking for someone who has a passion for news, shares our vision and cares about showcasing our distinctive content across all our digital platforms. We care about reaching all Australians - with a strong mandate for news stories that support, celebrate and appreciate the diversity of Australia’s multicultural society.
We are looking for a dedicated and digital editor to join the team on a rotating roster to create and edit written content for SBS News' Digital platforms.
This role will see you:â¯
Publishing and curating content across SBS News’ digital platforms, including the website, app, and Apple News
Managing live digital coverage of major news events, including overseeing live blogs, updates and alerts during breaking news
Selecting and producing the most relevant news stories from agency and SBS sources, re-writing and crafting them to maximise engagement
Writing, refining and optimising headlines to ensure accuracy, clarity and strong audience engagement across platforms
Sub-editing and elevating copy as and when necessary, while adhering to SBS Codes and Guidelines, and providing feedback to journalists
Using data and analytics tools to help inform editorial choices
Collaborating with members of the broader SBS News team (including TV, Audio, Digital Video and Social teams) to help make the most of our newsgathering and newsroom skills in daily coverage
About you
Ideally, you will:
Be a confident and creative digital editor with a strong eye for detail and the angles that matter to our audience
Have a keen interest in news, and ability to manage priorities in breaking news environments
Have an understanding of media law, flawless subbing, and strong headline writing skills
Be committed to maintaining our editorial integrity and maximising our publishing reach
Have demonstrated experience as a digital editor for news titles
Have demonstrated digital skills, including SEO, headline writing and writing for digital audiences
You should also bring:
A keen interest in what’s happening in the world to develop storytelling in new and innovative ways to reach and engage wider audiences
A strong understanding and knowledge of national and international affairsâ¯
A passion for providing news for all Australians
A hunger to understand and share new developments and trends in journalism and digital media
Enthusiasm to collaborate across the newsroom to create unique and distinctive content that meets deadlines
